I am not ashamed… (Romans 1:1-17)

from Salford Elim Church Podcast · host Neil Hudson

Paul starts this major letter, in which he will explore the good news from so many different angles, with a really exciting exploration of what the gospel is. In preaching this, I wanted those people who have been following Jesus for years to be reminded of the richness of the gospel, and those who are not sure to be persuaded that this is the only hope for them and the whole world. I was preaching this days before the referendum about Scottish independence – it’s a huge question and we have no idea how it will go. But every politician says that the future hangs on this decision. Paul, writing to Christians in a massive empire, wanted to remind them that the empire only had so much power. The real story is God’s story. Approximately 2000 years later, we study the Roman empire as a period of history. But the story of the gospel is as up to date as ever. People still need to accept the good news that is offered to them. There is no other hope – regardless of what will happen on Thursday 18th September 2014. http://www.salfordelimchurch.org/audio/podcasts/2014-09-14.mp3   I’d love to hear your thoughts or comments on this sermon – let me know below!
