“I did good.”
from Bright Siders · host Isabelle Marks Mosca
For me, there is nothing quite like having a pocket of precious time when my son has a back-and-forth conversation with me. It happens rarely, but mostly late at night when he does not want to go to sleep. He is so emotionally and physically present that I forget about his autism for a time. I love laughing with him and seeing the glorious person inside those eyes. He is now 23, and at this age I could imagine that he would be out on the town with a date or enjoying time with friends. Perhaps in the job of his dreams. Perhaps driving a car around town. But instead, he is hanging out with his mom in the den practicing some of his movie phrases that he has learned over the years. I am very thankful for this moment which gives me great joy. I am thankful that he is able to express himself these days. I never gave up on the idea that he could tell me how he was feeling, and now we are reaping the benefits at 1 o’clock in the morning.
