I feel guilty for being sad on holiday
from Children of Divorce · host Lydia Nathenson
It's hard to be sad. It's even harder to be sad in a beautiful place. I know we’ve all been there. Halfway across the world from home with the hope of feeling some kind of comfort or joy. We booked the trip, we spent our money and off we popped and then boom, we’re still sad. I found out the hard way that travel does not fix our problems and although it is a luxury, it is also a challenge! Of course we are fortunate to have such accessible air travel in 2026, but it can also be overwhelming. Being around so many cultures and absorbing so much information and being put outside of our comfort zone is a challenge, and it’s even harder when you have mental health issues. In today’s episode, I discuss my struggle with enjoying myself in foreign countries. I’ve been privileged to have so many opportunities, but also because of that privilege, I can say that no matter how much money I spent on where to go in the world, my problems followed me. Only by facing them did I finally find my peace, and it turns out it wasn’t halfway across the world. Thanks for listening, I adore you all!
