I Found Myself a Bit Jealous of my Son Today

I was pushing the lawnmower this afternoon, lamenting my lot in life as a 51-year-old man doing yardwork.I hate yardwork. I’d much rather be doing the shit I’d prefer to be doing. Such as traveling the United States by RV. I’ve mentioned this frequently in this podcast and in some of my articles. Our son is about to purchase his first motorcycle. He was showing me on a map the first road trip he’s planning to go on with it. Lucky bastard.I kid, I kid. He deserves to have nice things and to enjoy his youth. He’s 23 and unattached; not in a relationship. He has no reason not to go see the world on his own. I was married at that age and working constantly. Hell, I’m still doing that. But at least I have a career that I love, not selling shoes like I used to.I talk about how I’m a bit jealous of his freedom to travel the country on his terms, but how I’m also excited for him. And how it motivates me to keep pushing forward with my goals for writing and podcasting on Substack. I’m going to get to that point, as he will soon, too.Perhaps we’ll take one together.
