I Hate It When Fascists Police My Militarized Borders Somehow

from What a Hell of a Way to Dad

This week, we react to the recent happening at the US-Mexico border, in which a group of paramilitaries (among them ex-cops and veterans) held unarmed asylum seekers at gunpoint until the Border Patrol could arrest them. As Francis and Nate discuss, this sure sounds like some fascism. We also talk about a Marine general's fixation on yard care, which brings us to the larger point: why is the military so obsessed with demonstrations of obedience as opposed to anything approaching actual discipline? Why do we actually care if a 19-year-old has shaved his ridiculously paltry beard? Why do any of us get worked up about this? This week's bonus features an interview between Francis and Carey Shockey (@shocks), a labor lawyer and Coast Guard veteran. He's the first Coastie we've managed to get on the show, and we're happy to learn about the most secretive of all branches: https://www.patreon.com/posts/26266503 We have a YouTube channel now -- subscribe here and get sweet videos from us in which we yell in our cars like true veterans: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwlHZpNTz-h6aTeQiJrEDKw Are you tired of your veteran-themed coffee company shirts being too subtle?
