from Faith Sermons and Studies · host Faith Baptist Church
Have you ever felt the weight of crushing sorrow? The fear, anxiety, or worry that comes over you when something happens that is just out of your control? The grief and pain that happens when life seems to be unraveling and you don’t know how to stop it? These feelings are things that most of us have experienced in life. The crushing weight of life that seems to be caving it. Have you felt that? Can you remember how that felt? What scenario caused you to feel completely and utterly broken? . . . I remember feeling this type of brokenness when I got the news that my brother had died. My brother was 7 years younger than me, and he died a little over 8 years ago at the age of 24. We had grew up together, played together, built legos together. Until I left home to be married, we even shared a room together. And I remember exactly where I was when I got the phone call, and all my dad said was “Joe is gone.” I didn’t even know what that meant; I was in shock. “How could this happen! There must be some mistake—is this really even happening!” And I remember being utterly and completely broken. Chances are, you’ve felt this way to. You remember where you were, what you were doing, when you got to news. And you realized the course of your life was taking a turn. Where do you turn during a time like that? How do you pick yourself up? How do you even go on when you feel like you cannot God on? . . . Today we’re going to look at a Bible story in the Old Testament, and it’s a Bible story about someone who experienced brokenness as well. Some of the works brokenness you could imagine, this woman has experienced it. Yet instead of turning to despair, she believed in God. And from the story we see that in the midst of her brokenness and heartache, God mended her. And we learn the valuable lesson that God mends our broken hearts. And because God mends our broken hearts, we need to run to God in the midst of our brokenness. That’s our big idea for today: Big idea: because God mends our broken hearts, we need to run to God in the midst of our brokenness
