I Wanna Be Like... | Like Christ | Acts 6:8-15 | with Pastor Joshua Sanders
from Christ Community Church (Brazil, IN) · host mycccbrazil
Does anyone remember the "BE LIKE MIKE" ad from the 90’s? “Like Mike If I could Be Like Mike Like Mike Oh, if I could Be Like Mike” This was the anthem for many kids during the 90’s, “I wanna be like Mike.” But all of us when we were kids had someone that we wanted to be like when we grew up. Now, in a spiritual sense, who is it that we should strive to be like? Our goal as Christians should be to be like Christ. But here is the thing... Being like Christ is not just something we aim for; it is the core of our faith and the basis of how we are to live every day. But what does it truly mean to be like Christ? Is it about wearing a cross around our necks, or attending church regularly, or sharing the verse of the day on Facebook, or leaving a Gospel tracts on the tables for our servers at restaurants? Those are just surface things. To be like Christ means to show His love, grace, patience, and humility, and to be fully committed to doing God's will, just like Jesus was. It means to see the world as Christ does and to act with His compassion and care. And this transformation doesn’t happen overnight—it’s a journey, a daily surrender, and a conscious effort to reflect His light in a world that desperately needs it. And on in this sermon, we dive into Acts 6:8-15, and in this passage, we will look at a man named Stephen. And what we will see is that he was a man that was as much like Jesus as anyone in Scripture up to this point. Stephen’s life and actions show us a powerful example of being like Christ. And over the next few weeks, as we look at Stephen, we’ll see a clear picture of what it truly means to be like Christ, even to the point of death. And what we will learn in this sermon is that as we GET AFTER IT for the expanding of the Kingdom of God, our goal should be to be like Christ.
