I Will Declare What He Hath Done | Come Follow Me Morning Meditation | Psalms 49–86

Start today by remembering one rescue you never explained to anyone. A Come Follow Me morning meditation for August 24–30, "I Will Declare What He Hath Done for My Soul" (Psalms 49–51; 61–66; 69–72; 77–78; 85–86). This week's psalms are songs of testimony. In Psalm 66 a man stops an ordinary morning to say "Come and hear, and I will declare what he hath done for my soul" — not what God did for the nation, but what God did for him, through fire and water and heavy burdens. In Psalm 71 an older voice, gray-headed and still counting, says God taught him from his youth and he is telling it still. In Psalm 51 David asks God to create in him a clean heart, and then promises that once he is restored he will teach others the ways of God. And Psalm 62 gathers it all into one steady line: "My soul, wait thou only upon God." You have a record too — the night the fear lifted, the words that came when you had nothing prepared, the person who arrived on the exact day you needed them. Play this as you begin your morning, before the day gathers its weight, and let one remembered mercy set the tone for everything that follows.
