IBS quick tip. When you're eating for IBS, size matters...No matter how safe a food is for IBS, eating a huge portion can trigger attacks. No matter how safe a food is for IBS, eating a huge portion of it in one sitting can trigger an attack. Your gastrocolic reflex reacts (or with IBS over-reacts) in direct correlation to the number of calories or sheer volume you consume in a meal. It's the overreacion of this reflex that sets off the dysfunctional bowel motility of IBS.This makes it easy to see why high fat foods cause IBS problems. Fat is more than twice as calorie-dense as carbohydrates and proteins. But it also means that bingeing on anything carries serious risks for those of us with IBS. Don't kid yourself here. If your friends break out a whole pint of ice cream and a spoon for a splurge, you can’t just do the same with fat-free sorbet. Ingredients count when it comes to an IBS diet, but quantity does too. Because it’s not just what you eat, but how you eat.Size really does matter. You are not alone.Heather's IBS Newsletter can’t continue without your support. Please become a paid subscriber.P.S.
