Icons of The Virgin’s Heart- Part 1- She Who Shows the Way

his sermon begins the series “Icons of the Virgin’s Heart” by reflecting on the icon of St. Mary known as “She Who Shows the Way.” In the icon, St. Mary carries Christ with one arm while pointing toward Him with the other. Her entire life proclaims one message: Him. Through the Annunciation, the Wedding at Cana, the Visitation, and the witness of the saints, Fr. Paul explores what it means to live a truly Christ-centered life. St. Mary teaches us to surrender our plans to God’s will, carry Christ within us before trying to point others toward Him, and become free from the exhausting desire to be noticed, praised, or placed at the center. The question is not simply whether Jesus is part of our lives, but whether He is truly the center of our lives. “Let it be to me according to your word.” Luke 1:38 “Whatever He says to you, do it.” John 2:5 May St. Mary teach us to carry Christ, reveal Christ, and point everything in our lives back toward Him.
