Identity Crime: What's in a Name?

Finding the perpetrators of identity crime has always been tricky, but these days the problem is exacerbated because ID deception and theft knows no bounds, thanks to the Internet. There's no clear understanding of the size of the problem or its nature. And, the job of cracking down on identity crime globally is made all the more difficult for authorities by the use of inconsistent terminology. The legal system has been slow to appreciate the breadth and complexity of ID crime, say a team of researchers at the Australian School of Business. But that's all about to change.
