Identity — Identity Theft

The world competes for our sense of identity, insisting we find ourselves in career, education, family, or past successes and failures. This message contends that a Christian's identity is found in relationship with Jesus alone, and that following him means taking on the identity of a servant. Drawing on a personal account of being asked at eighteen to lead a middle school ministry, the teaching uses Colossians 3:23 to show that any task done with the right heart becomes worship and service to Christ. 1 Peter 2:9 frames believers as a royal priesthood called out of darkness to serve. The model is Jesus himself in Philippians 2 and John 13 —God who took the nature of a servant and washed feet. Greatness, Jesus taught, comes through serving, and the blessing comes in the doing.
