If Faith Can Move Mountains, Why Hasn't Your Faith Moved Anything? | Questions That Matter #3
Jesus said that if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to a mountain, move, and it will move. That verse gets quoted constantly, on merch, in sermons, on Instagram captions. But is it actually true, or is it one of the most misused and misunderstood verses in the entire Bible? In this episode of Questions That Matter, we ask whether the popular Christian phrase "with faith, anything is possible" is a genuine biblical promise or a feel good half truth that sets people up for disappointment and doubt. This episode covers mustard seed faith, the theology of Matthew 17:20 and Mark 11:23, what it actually means to move a mountain through faith, and why so many Christians pray for healing, breakthrough, or provision and feel like their faith failed when nothing changes. We are not interested in giving you a shallow, feel good answer. We want to look honestly at what Jesus meant, what the original audience would have understood, and how this teaching fits into the broader picture of God's sovereignty and human faith working together. Scripture is full of tension on this exact issue. Mark 11:23 records Jesus saying that whoever does not doubt in their heart, but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them. Yet James 4:2 says you do not have because you do not ask, and 1 John 5:14 says our confidence is that if we ask anything according to God's will, He hears us. That phrase, according to His will, changes everything about how this promise actually works, and most people skip right past it. We also address the prosperity gospel's distortion of this teaching, the difference between presumptuous faith and genuine biblical faith, and why unanswered prayer does not necessarily mean weak faith. This episode is for anyone who has ever prayed hard for something, believed with everything they had, and still watched the mountain stay exactly where it was. In this episode we cover: What Jesus actually meant when He talked about faith moving mountains The difference between mustard seed faith and presumptuous faith How the prosperity gospel has distorted this teaching for profit and control Why God's will matters more than the size or intensity of your faith What to do spiritually when your faith does not produce the outcome you prayed for How to hold onto genuine faith without falling into either doubt or false guilt This is part of our new Questions That Matter series from The Final Watch, short and focused conversations tackling one controversial question or current event headline at a time, no fluff, no filler, just honest biblical discussion.
