To remain competitive with commercial airline builder Airbus, Boeing instituted extreme cost cutting measures, implemented misguided efforts to reduce or eliminate the need for training on their updated equipment, and displayed poor internal communication and information sharing. The FAA delegated to Boeing the responsibility to certify many crucial safety items. All these factors contributed to their recent dubious safety record.
