“If not forgotten, they are not gone”: A 9/11 reflection

Twenty-four years ago today, 2,976 Americans were killed in the deadliest terrorist attacks in our nation’s history. In the decades since, more than 7,000 have died and over fifty-three thousand have been wounded in the Global War on Terror, choosing to serve their country at great personal cost. Their sacrifice leaves behind families who live each day with an unfillable emptiness and reminds us that “gone but not forgotten” means they are not gone.
