This is the best hang podcast featuring Max Gurman Shane Cunningham and I and Mike German Welcome to the best hang podcast I might we got Max we got Shane and we have so much going on We are recently back from the Canadian Screen Awards the highest honor our country has to give out where we were nominated for our Sket Show the dessert We were only a short ways away from one of the most exciting events of the summer not as the double header our Kels event at Bud stage what's what's the name of it is it double header so better right double header? I love it. It's great. You got team and Sarah on the first night who's with you on the second night group love group love Everybody's very excited.
I feel like as we get closer There's buzz just with our own friends anecdotally like the text groups are starting to heat up people are picking nights Yeah, I think it's gonna be an exciting exciting time So there's excitement all around where do we want to start fellas? I think we look really cool today the lighting and chain I'm his hair looks great like some glasses always wearing glasses are you wearing circle? These are very circle. They're $12 Here's the guy normally go at my man Farsh at in Lancaster here But these were like I bought these years ago on clearly contacts for $12 frames and then I come to put the lenses in But yeah, they're very John Lennon.
I have a question How are you guys good? How are you at making purchases? I'm so bad at making any purchases Like I have this new microphone that I'm using and I was like okay max You're gonna diligently like research the best microphone that plugs directly into a computer So you don't have to have like another piece that connects it to the computer It's like a very seamless thing and I went on like the New York Times like you know consumer reports thing And I want to kill myself I couldn't even make the decision It was like I was at $150 on this or 200 and then I just ended to ask you choose ash doesn't know anything about microphones like nothing She never like had to use one, but I was like I feel better knowing that you did the research Are you guys good at making like any decisions for yourself when it comes to purchases? No, there's There's a natural paralysis with choice that some people have because they're terrified to make the wrong choice They don't want to live in regret I'm very susceptible to that where it's like oh do I'm I picking green or I picking red or whatever?
You know that metaphorically you want to say and that I can do that But I'm I feel at this point old enough to realize that once I make a choice I said it forget it and I don't think about it really again for most things I think you got to know the big stuff house maybe a car, you know, maybe where your children are gonna school things like that You kind of got a nail but everything else microphone. It's trivial if you got the bad microphone reset it gives you shit The biggest regret you ever made purchase wise. Can you see the peloton in the background of my Literally has been written three fucking times and I would kill to have that 2k back right now So yeah, probably this fucking I don't know what it is. I got a deer in the background like a What am I doing?
This is the greatest regret. Yeah, because it's not clearly not so it would be much cooler if it was a Live dear. This is a fake skeleton Oh, we're gonna get it at one of the you know, you get a new home You start pointing that stuff because you think you have money So you just start buying weird couches and artwork like I'd be worst artwork the worst like every decision I made with this house is wrong like saw wise I had a fucking shuffleboard table in the middle of the house. I have a like a pornographic Like what is it called?
What's that big porno painting that you don't know paintings like hey Alex? Porno painting we have what's that called? The Garden of Earthly delights Children but now we've got like birthday parties happening at the house parents think we're weirdos so I'm actually a smart actually from the dessert. She does a house What's it called when someone comes over and they tell you put on the walls a house decorator in your design So she's an interior designer and I want to hire her.
I'm saving up to hire her to come to the house And just tell me what to do like I'll tell her what I kind of like and then she's going to do that She doesn't know this but I'm hoping she listens to this episode But yeah, that's I'm the worst the worst the worst I'll everything if I go to buy a microphone It's the wrong microphone. I'm trying to buy a desk for the office I've got a million rabbit holes Tutorials on how to set up your desk perfect for to optimize performance to be neat things that are good for people who are very disorganized And it's it's a nightmare. I've been doing this for over a month. I still can't it's nothing I don't want to trigger make the decision.
It's just everything so complicated to get a desk And it's just like a piece of wood with four legs like tell me it's all by the best desk I don't care. I throw money at problems and it's even that doesn't work Also, it's shocking how much stuff can be you know, we never had to experience it It's just like what a desk costs like a thousand dollars or some shit See I'm too stupid to even know what's expensive or I'm willing to waste money and you know make terrible decisions financially as long as it works But I do that it doesn't even work Max, what is your biggest regret purchase wise? Oh good question I don't have much stuff, you know, I'm trying to think of shit I would have bought like yeah, you know, I don't want I don't want any stuff You're kind of like a you remember that movie heat Robert D'Niro has like this thing where he's like don't get attached and you can't walk away from in 30 seconds When you feel when you feel a heat coming around the corner, so I mean you have a wife and kids though That's easy for Well, that's the thing we put down roots and we had to give up our you know the criminal ways that's the thing about Niro and you've seen that You've seen that You have a criminal? No, of course not What I'm saying is the Niro in this movie he does end up falling in love and when he has the moment to get away with it at the end Spoiler he goes back for the girl and that's what ultimately gets him killed by Al Pacino.
Wait is heat a romantic comedy? There is an element of romance when he's a hero led this whole life He's obsessed with the scores, you know, he just does these big sports guys one last score But he slowly starts to fall in love with this woman, but his whole philosophy gets tested because he's like no No, you never get attached anything you can't walk away from you don't feel he's the one around the corner I can't really name the actor. Oh, I you know her too. She's like she's somebody.
She's like I don't know curly hair Amy Brennerman or something. Maybe I'm guessing I pulled that out of my butt and that's true. That's pretty impressive Anyway long story long is is Robert's in your scripture lives light, but when he does start to fall in love It's the only time he missteps and he ends up with a bullet in his gut from Al Pacino at the end, but Al Pacino respects And they're kind of their their opposite sides of the coin, but they have this weird respect for their both their dedication The crowd so yeah when he dies, you know You could go on the airplane and the plane goes over and he's dying and Al Pacino holds his hand and they sort of have this moment So he doesn't have to die alone. Do you know that virtual just got a tattoo?
This is the action is the juice on his arm Is that a velcro line? There's a lot of really sort of sticky parts in that movie the whole Val Kilmer Ashley jud sort of storyline anyway, recommend the movie You're getting to your your most grateful purchase next thing that you don't have much stuff I don't really can't really think of it. I want to be able to be robbed and not even realize it That's sort of my aspiration, you know for somebody to take all my stuff I'm like, what's missing here? I mean, yeah, it's easy for me to say but yeah, because I've been robbed I've been lucky beginning Rob to think about this in the pod But my house was robbed in Hamilton and the cops recovered the stuff They were covered my laptop in my backpack and my passport and all that shit, but yeah What's the most amount of money you'd lose that really piss you off?
How much is a peloton cost? I would say no, I mean, I think anything that's like not devastating and it's a subjective right different people have different amounts of money They could lose and they've never there's a famous story But one of our friends dads who he went missing to Shane knows it's more intimately than me I wasn't there for this but Greg and Shane my brother and Shane your friend. What's the story with the tune? He like he never really yet well, this is from a well-off family and sometimes the more money you have the more you cup it So a tune he went missing It was more the principle of the thing the mother thought that the friends were lying So he had everyone kind of empty their pockets and just to prove that no one stole the tune But I can't you know this is a podcast.
So I don't want to bear it. Yeah, I can't get into too much I did do a wedding speech once I like I am see this person's wedding and I told the story I wasn't sure how it was gonna go over but it did gangbusters. So yeah, there we go But I don't want to do it on the plug well speaking of speeches I'd like you know, we didn't win at the CSAs this year But we should talk about it and I would like Shane to make a speech right now if we had one how would have gone because I think you would Have a great job. I thought some of the speeches were not so good But I was thinking the whole time I was like we went Shane's gonna deliver real humdinger And even if it's not a humdinger, we'll think it's fucking funny because like the joke It'll be an inside joke that we'll laugh about later.
That's kind of what I want to win Yeah, yeah, so what would you have said you're thirty seconds just the just the preamble here I want to say I did not know the CSAs were so legitimate in my mind I thought it was one of those events where especially for our category where it's not televised I thought maybe it was gonna be a little sware with you know People are eating eating and drinking cocktails and hors d'oeuvres And maybe there's a little bit of chatter going on as the awards are happening And maybe people aren't paying attention and I could give kind of a stupid speech that would go largely unnoticed and be unremarkable But be kind of funny to me. However, it was a legitimate show quiche Chante was hosting who yeah She's great on probably my entire life. I love quiche Chante. I think she's one of those like you love me.
Mm-hmm. Is that okay? She delivered I think it is really yeah, yeah, so so that I was like oh my goodness. This is legitimate She did an amazing job people are getting up there and crying they're standing ovation's happening.
It's almost like a lifetime achievement award There's also it's also to Shane's point. It is totally televised It's the exact setup that would be like if you'd see you know like this is the country's biggest award You get in that room you have jibs swinging down all these massive video screens They film a little webduction. Yeah, you got it You got it as if it's being televised however This is just largely for the internet and like I was saying people are going up and giving heartfelt speeches There's orphans or not or if it's like foster foster kids They produced a show that didn't get funded a woman came up and won and gave like a Cuba good in junior esque passionate speech that was Funny and emotional and I tears in my eyes which I was not expecting an arcade one When she gave that speech and then how wasn't funded and all that and again Yeah, and the little girls were crying and hugging each other. Mm-hmm.
That was like holy shit I've got a little girl, so it hits extra and we're next our categories after this one So if we won I would have to be on the stage giving my stupid speech and I my speech is one of those like hack things where the joke Is the speech is so bad that it's supposed to be funny I will get to and read but as the show was going and I saw that the tides were turning on what I thought the show was and what it actually was I'm augmented my speech in my mind if we had one and I was going to give a speech about how stupid my speech was and Then and then say I do these things because you know I hide behind the humor But really I'm like sitting aside like standing beside these foster children in this beautiful night Whatever, so I'm gonna have Mike read it and then add some sincerity to it if he wants to and because I am not prepared And I'm not good off the cops. So that was going to be my preamble to my stupid speech. However, here is my stupid speech Oh, you have it. This is great.
Yeah, Mike Mike made sure I kept it afterwards. He was like you keep that speech Well, I well, this is the thing is if I know I knew that there's a chance that he might throw it to me depending on how things go But what I did because we were two people apart It was me we're sitting in the awards like whatever they would have recall the audience And it was like I had pops to my left and then Myers and then Shane was one over and then you guys were in my right But I didn't we didn't you can't talk there's a word going there's crying is all this stuff But I didn't quite know that Shane I didn't know what his audible was so I was just like if we win So like my heart's kind of beating because I just need to know like what's this Will we be able to have the time and walk on the walk on the chairs to the stage? Well, I'd be able to know well, he just let me know because then it's like okay I know what I gotta say and I'm just and there's a time when it's a little bit thing But so I'm kind of my heart's beating and really I'm like and I don't know what Shane's gonna do And he's got the piece of paper here, but he's kind of clutching it really every time I look over him as like we get closer and closer to our Announcement it seems like he's holding it tighter and tighter and I've known Shane's one of the best friends for years But I'm like we've never been in this situation together before I'm very fascinated to know what's going through his brain If I was just sitting beside him, I could I was going here But we never we couldn't really communicate because again it would have been rude to talk It was kind of an intimate room even though it does look big when you watch the video online all that so back to Shane They're announcing our award wait back to you were you hoping we won in the moment like that split second like obviously overall We hope we win but in that moment where you like I hope they say it I hope they say it or you like I hope they don't say it so the whole the minute we sat down all I was doing was Thinking about exactly how I was gonna say like the let's call it the gratitude part of the speech with a nice little sort of closer I was thinking how many of that and when I started when we sat down I was gonna do full names And then I was saying that people were actually being held like 30 seconds But some people were going to minute in ten so then I was like I was editing as I went But all like I was just brain mode and then when we got to the moment of truth like you said I had that I had the duality of the thoughts where it was like life would be much easier if they if it's one of the Three nominees like other three TV shows. It's not ours I go but I also think that like we want this because how hard it won't work what it means for show and it's only a moment if We suck when we're on the stage no one remember but we'll have the award forever So that's who preceded any sort of like discomfort about embarrass yourself in front of like, you know 200 people right man and Famous people are in the crowd up for awards that a letter Kenny Cass like it was legit night You know and it was it's so that I did want to win and hilariously when the moment of truth came your heart starts beating Myers's film because he fucking films everything, but I'm just like Thinking I'm thinking and awesome like will shame I get that moment where I could be like hey What's the plan on the walk to stage and then the the the the open the envelope and they say and It's gonna be the dessert, but it was this hour has 22 minutes Yeah, and by adrenaline was going and then my adrenaline like release like I'm not really really like a father But I get released in like sort of a moment of like all at once I was like swapped with like okay We're not doing it.
Oh fuck that damn that's sad, you know, man, okay, whatever I kind of look down the other people there's Bruce, you know as you all the blue guys, you know Andrew and Matt and Shane I was giving standing ovation Yeah, but anyway, so that was my experience Shane before you just be what was your process leading up to the moment of truth? I was swapped with so much relief I'm gonna start using that I was During the show I'm like oh no, we're gonna win we're gonna win this hours 22 minutes is winning any other category They've reserved it for us. They didn't let Max get nominated for best song so they're using this opportunity They saw Max is coming they've rigged some boats They're gonna get max on stage this whole thing is like orchestrated in this politics going on to get max up there and Bruce And I started almost painting I had that feeling and then when we lost it was that short-term relief like yes In the long term I wish we had one so anyway This is like the most long-winded thing ever but so in an alternate reality They say they open the envelope and they say the desserts and we all walk up on stage and then Shane walks up to the mic And you all pretend I would have gone forward with my shit version and then you can kind of you know save save it So yeah, so I would walk up and I'd be like hi everyone, you know, I'm not very good at speeches I've been accused of having no humility But last night in a fit of inspiration I woke up in the middle of the night and I wrote something I can't remember what it was but I'm gonna read it right here in front of you Okay We won we won hooray. We have won this is a special feeling to have won they say comedy is subjective But not tonight because we have won Three cheers to everyone involved And then Mike would swoop in to save the day and say oh I would have been you know Shane just echo chain say comedy is subjective I mean you're full it's even how to sketch show made it for that we defend justice ockman that whole Media I'm on stage obviously with a bunch of producers But creators that are great starting with you know like our partners LaRue there and the trenches with us Bruce McCullough kids And all the fact that even wanted to be in with us He's a legend in that really sort of like it was legitimizing ways that we can ever sort of say thank you enough for we got max Criminal here who wrote the the theme song and all the music for the show what a luxury to have a friend that we say we're doing a Sketch show can you contribute some music?
He said absolutely just show me where I'm going and I'm in directors on on the show There's been so many of them Alice Johnson Matt Unsworth con Akhlin and of course Mark Myers who's on the stage He's also pretty sweet over half the sketches and he's incomparable on all the writers I go through all of them a domo of our berry we got Myers we got Shane led by John Popless and Shane in the writer's room I we had Jillian Smart Bella Campbell Jeff the Silva and it was just really like an embarrassment of riches with the writers I probably had to cut the names just for time as I saw thirty seconds back to speak I want to cut the writer's names I was like obviously have to talk about the incredible cast obviously we have Shane Cunningham here Who's also you know co-creator and cast member But Jillian Smart is a Bella Campbell our two most talented writers and actors and this team is so lucky that they're on the show with us And they will work forever and we were so grateful to have them with this team obviously all the cast the crew everybody Yeah, and lastly I just like to say a bunch of us that worked on the show You know we have small children in the future when we're forcing our teenage kids to watch these in one of the desserts We can point over at this trophy well not this exact trophy But a not insignificant price $600 replica that we all have to purchase we'll point over at that replica trophy And we'll say hopefully this was the start of something big. Thank you to the Academy We're appreciative to be a small part of it. Thank you all the volunteers and everybody good night I would have got caught up. Yeah, so that's what I meant by cuba mo you don't know what I mean by that do you max Was he like crying or being really emotional music was playing but he kept going and yelling and like his voice was horos Yeah, that was so I wanted you to keep playing your humming The full speech the editing would have been not individual names I wouldn't have gone through the director's I would just say mark's name and then the writers when they get named But I know some of the writers listen to the podcast so I make sure they got no You would save the day there like when it was it was dead and then you would have had grace and hopefully it would seem like We concocted that together and then I might get some of the rub off of that grace and the you would have to Party and I ran about you during the day because I think you know just like in working together I knew Shane's speech was more subversive and like I really like it's hilarious and I really love the line like Comedy's subjective but not tonight because we won that's a really funny line And I think that like I didn't want it I didn't want it to step I was like can we do both tones like the duality and then shame was like yeah That he's like this is how it will work and and then it was also like in the moment It's like let's just go with the fucking funny weird one Then it's like I'm totally happy to do that as well, you know and again I think we both underestimated how formal and serious everyone takes it because in a lot of ways like in the industry What we've been in commercials forever but like in this sort of like this element or this part of the industry Which is like far more of like a construct and it can be nice and it's like people's obviously sounds I say you know this but their livelihoods these writers these actors this is their life You know what I mean in this and we are sort of like we're making things creatively that we really want to make but again It's like almost like we're only we've done one well of couple TV shows But always sort of like our own way not it's been outside of the system And this is the first time where we sort of are are in the system and part of this Canadian film and television industry and sort of Yeah, it was I thought it was really interesting and informative I don't know like you think that's accurate change yeah like and that speech to I think it was my speech in particular It would have been maybe inappropriate for this place We're at where would be looked at like an interloper came in Disrespected the the event and I'm not really part of that community yet So I can't even like you almost have been grated in there to do something like that for it to be accepted But yeah, totally that all those things are running through my mind as I was watching the show like cheese This is real people's livelihood this matters You know, I'm so taught to be like oh Canadian television isn't as good as the state So I have a bit of that self-hating Canadian thing going on which this isn't the moment to express that at all This a moment to like celebrate what's good in Canada So yeah, it was very interesting and I'm totally gonna reframe the csa's going forward Absolutely and you know to shins point like just the speeches were great and all the winners were just like yeah I don't know I came away just being very impressed with the whole sort of apparatus And it was a really sweet night to celebrate our work even though we didn't win like with our friends and everyone that worked on the dessert And the people who did one for this hour is 22 minutes sorry, I got my zoom problem But uh came up though the real winners from this hour's 22 minutes came up and said they're huge fans of the dessert That's nice.
Yeah, the ones that beat us which was pretty it was pretty nice And you know most of the most exciting moments for me and this just gets back to the dad thing is There's this kid show called wild krat's like these two brothers that like sort of do like they visit zoos and it goes You know whatever We know no loves wild kratts. I didn't even know that was Canadian I had no idea just like since she watches it and then it was like up for an And then it won and I was like wow and I like took a photo and then I was showing when I was like a dad I was like no and I could tell she immediately didn't respect me as much But then I told her that wild kratts have won an award Then she got released and I'm showing her the photo in the video and then this morning she was watching wild kratts So it's kind of like a nice little nice little moment But yeah, what were your thoughts max you've been to so many awards or your multiple june award when you're part of this institution of a musical community That you know Canada honors itself and you've sort of been through this on the music side if not the television side Well, I'd love to know your POV on everything sort of front to back start to finish Yeah, I mean I like the the facility, you know It was in the cbc building but it was like in this studio So it kind of felt kind of rich and like more important than I maybe assumed it might be Um, one of the things that always bothers me with with technology in the modern world that we live in is people reading stuff off their iPhone and don't get me wrong It is such a fucking chore to find a printer if you want to find a printer to print out something that you have written down because you just Wanted wanted to look classier and more old timing. It's impossible. So don't give your best purchases.
I've ever made I have an amazing printer Yeah, because so anyway, whatever anybody read off a phone I was like it was a little disappointed because I just think it's like cheapens it a little bit Um, but there was one talented actress who's sitting in front of us She must have been down at 12 or 13 years old and she delivered her 30 seconds like amazingly Do you know what I'm talking about the one? Yes? I think her parents were in front of us and she was right in front of you Maybe tv movie or something. She was like a Yeah, she's great at her name But she did not stumble once and she basically like hit every person that she was supposed to think like seamlessly and she was just like just a perfect amount of excitement So it's also so like I felt like the word choice is she used a lot of like it's a really good veteran Like gratitude like it's only being like wow this speech is polished to shit But she's an actor so she probably wrote it a week ago and memorized it front to back Some actors there did not do that and we're more You know, I mean like a lot of them weren't and so I was like oh if all the actors in the room This one is sort of like the most prepared and also made me think about it's funny The Juno's we've been to somebody Juno's and we want a few and it's always in the throes of touring So it's always a blur but right now I just happen to be home a bit more and I don't feel as like chaotic in my mind So I was thinking about I don't even really remember any of the speeches I've ever made like ever and they've usually been off the cuff But I know in the moment I was you know frantically trying to think about what to say and how to make a coherent But it did make me want to redo all my speeches and really nail it and like spend the time and actor would take to like hit the beats and Remember the script because a good speech.
I mean there's something charming about a speech that kind of goes all over Cuff and is like clearly improvised but a good speech like you know when Robert Downey Jr. Delivers the speech in like clearly He's been workshopping it, but he knows how to like does Danny bother you or can I find him delightful when he's on stage? He's gonna be a bit much, but I overall think it's really cool. What do you guys think?
I don't think I've ever gotten down the rabbit hole. I didn't know he was an audible speech giver Well, he just gave what I mean most recently I just think of his like I think he went for Oppenheimer for one of the words this year I know he just like he's a little yeah, I did leaning into so like anointo It's so it's like this is kind of what tashane was alluding to about like the speech that he wrote It's like if you're like sort of like part of the institution or your anointed or your maid sort of person You have you can do any like you can play jazz you can know shit because people are just excited to see a famous person Do some talking if you're sort of new or this is the first time people are seeing you on stage. It's like this. That's why yeah, yeah But you know I don't know I think it depends on you know who you are truly and what your persona is I sure a lot of room to play on my only point is that like being a little more prepared I always think I could be a little bit more prepared.
Yeah, Shane and I both fucking panic on the watch the stage Match you gotta do it. Just do it. Okay. We're gonna stand behind you and go I got this boys All right, there's no greater gift than making stuff with your friends.
I have an opportunity to be a part of this show I had very little to do it I had like nothing to do with it They just said max and you write some songs and can you uh rent a bus in Hamilton for one of the sketches? And I have a lot of pull in Hamilton So I was able to sort that out the masterminds of the show are john pop was shank on ham mike vierman And the director who did most of the work For the 50 sketches that happened was mark my rcc on stage and of course our production team with the rue and ashabod And it's really just a labor of love because we made a show that looks like 30 million dollars for a tiny fraction of that And we're so proud of it and the only thing we want to do moving forward is do more of the same. That's it and then walk away I'm jillion Bell. I'm kind of pissing you.
I'm like, oh sure Yeah, that's true. See this what happens It's only you gave me only two seconds. Okay. Let's see something.
I'm jillion Bell. Okay. Yeah, yeah, just that wouldn't take long to throw me But I feel like you gotta mention the start Do you want to do what is done? No, you're gonna go to my speech once.
Okay. Ask me again. Ask me again. Do it Do it.
Sure. Sorry. Sorry. Sorry.
Shane and I are bale and max do it. Do it. I got the stage Yeah, no problem. I say hey everybody I'm here with the dessert among the producers on the show a little girl didn't get a chance to finish her speech So we're gonna bring her back on stage and then we're gonna see the floor to give some context Yeah, so there's a show you can't call a little bird on crave and they'd wanted the cast to gone up and they all did a thing where there was like For for them.
Maybe they're all gonna they all got to say it little something There's a really young member of the cast. I don't know what 10 12. I don't know any younger younger than that. She was maybe eight So she's like eight so the three sort of three people sort of speak and then just issue So and the timing was very awkward and they did say and like basically they run these like pre-taped sort of like packs for the next award They were kind of banging them over and over so there's some tech in the back that the body language really did seem like all like they were Gonna walk off stage, but they sort of they were gonna live get a little girl speak this the latter this actors and she just as she Step forward to talk on the mic they dim the lights and they start running the video pack the whole audience obviously sees what happens You're crushed because like if you're eight how do you even have context for this?
It's like you feel like you maybe did something wrong anyway everybody was kind of like dying inside and it felt terrible and then a couple more words went and When this artist was on casser's they went some cast award and when they went up mark rich Right before they were about to speak said hey, there was a little you know There was an actor from little bird that didn't get to speak earlier and we would love to have her up Moment of the night she comes up. She actually gets to give her speech Which was great like she was just like, you know what i was gonna say is thank you to the cast and you could tell she was kind of like And there was a pause she's like just like the cast for and then there's like a pause and like oh come on Come on like get it out. You know everyone here wants you when she goes for letting me be me and then like everybody like she Was telling her second family to her like I thought it was yeah really good really good impact But I congratulated her afterwards and she didn't have a lot of time for me. I was like yeah great Take time me a little bit Right to your head.
Yeah, what do you think of the ultimate humility play and like on one side? I'm like that's obviously the best move that's the coolest but sometimes I'm like you like I'm just like oh that's I you know you wish you could do it and it's a little like shut up. You know doing that It's like pander like it's like everything like I feel everything when I see that i'm jealous I wasn't up there to give her that opportunity I feel like oh that he's just doing it for you know praise and it's really nice thing I feel everything when I see stuff like that I think it depends on how it's delivered And also it's like crich is probably one of million of these things already and like genuinely probably like that this is clearly the right thing Less to the crich. I'm like and this was your first award.
Would you do that? Win everything taken away from the dessert Which is way now Yeah, this guy because I was 10 so okay. How was crich? Criches awesome.
He was doing like impersonations. He was doing all kinds of bits at the table is fantastic. That's great Um guys we had a wrap this up in a minute, but I want to leave for a minute. Yeah, we said we're 35 minute Or sure cause I have to cut out everything I said about crich there.
No one had my back I'm gonna let Shane die on this one. Okay I From that combo it's because I was looking up the actor from little bird is carris hopale because I want to For the speech leave it on I was I was doing that I support what Shane said although I didn't hear it so if it wasn't great then I don't feel like it's more But yes, so okay, so we're wrapping this quick. We didn't really get to do well I didn't even get to I just quickly want to say and after you heard my speech and I don't say anything very quickly But um I get to fuck I leave in the morning. It's kind of a cluster.
I got my fucking suit So I gotta bring it on the go train I'm I decide to not get the early train like a 17 I'm gonna play with the girls like the kids for a bit and blah blah blah Wish me luck so a ton of rush out of the house. I think I have eye contacts at my desk Mm, I can't see shit with all my contacts my glasses like I can see three feet in front of me Everything beyond that no this is not good for like a gala where there's pre drinks after any awards because it's like one You see people but it's like so people will not eat from ten feet away And I don't know so then I'm waving at strangers in these situations or I'm not noticing when people are sort of smiling or whatever It's just you feel very disadvantaged so I was like I need my contacts But they were not at my desk and I forgot to pack some extra which I'm gonna do I'm in a panic. I'm messaging my brother. Hey, you going hamilton today, which I'm hoping he'll be like hey bro I got you also we I couldn't come back and I couldn't do it because we had meetings all afternoon otherwise I would just came back to Amazon got my eye contacts.
So I'm panicking. I'm messaging Dan Dan's like maybe Sovelli's in Hamilton I'm just everybody. I'm like, you know, get shit done man. Ash get shit done So I messaged Ash and Max I'm like don't know people actually Danica's Danica's like maybe just put it on like Instagram and someone might be coming to Toronto You can sort of like I feel like they have a network don't know they're not just so I messaged you to ash is like so on it She's calling her optometrist.
She's like maybe I can get you a quick prescription for some for for icon tax Maybe we can do she's literally already got like six solutions within a minute and then she's like reaching out to people if anyone's making the trip And she comes across she says hey, you sort it Nathan Nash our very own Nathan Nash is coming into town He's seeing some show at like whatever the whatever that what's the princess of Wales theater? He's gonna dinner with his wife so he Danica dropped off the contacts and they made it So I just want to thank Ash cuz she really is the greatest that making things happen and I don't think anything doesn't Thank you. Just come in anyway. Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah, I do appreciate it. I also I did give Nathan I don't feel use it or use it for odds But I gave him all that Philly swag we left with Max and we left Like really expensive sweater and had all that stuff I will never wear another team's merch But I gave I gave that to to Nathan either for your bar, which you know, you and Nathan are obviously are involved with or you know I don't know but anyway, I just want to thank both Nathan and manager ash Um, but as someone with 20-20 vision, I found I didn't get one head nod from across the room or anything So I don't think you were missing out on that much I got so many head nods you did from whom? 20 feet away from Bell Rachel Ferguson from Bell waves Rachel Ferguson from Bell waves, you know the first time I saw Bruce He was like 15 feet away It's like Catherine right then I spotted when we were walking in and said hello, you know and had a nice chat with her Did you get to connect with her Max?
Because me and Shane sorry? I never saw her. Yeah, that's a busy way to get out of there But yeah, how was that after hang by the way? Did you guys want to the bar wait a great time?
Yeah? No, it went very very late and we had lots of fun. We had very much fun. It was good We actually did try to go to bershals.
We were like well, you know, we had that after drinks and I'm like, okay Well, let's kind of keep it going with me Shane and pops and Myers and we're like look at this virtual hat like Bert We know virtually has a fucking bar. Let's go to Paris, Texas. I'm like hey you I'm relations zero. Yeah, I don't want to I don't want to put out some buckets of Corona But I was like hey, we're just coming from the wardrobe You know about he's like, you know five is like nom in tonight and I wasn't at that point gonna be like hey We're thinking of doing this so we walked by Paris, Texas And I guess it wasn't you know, it's not a crazy thing on a Wednesday night and then we're gonna go into your bar max Yeah, yeah, yeah, we drank some pitchers We were on suits the four of us were in suits and shit Yeah, we looked you know, it looks like a good cherries I got so angry at pops because he only ordered one pizza for four It's like a you need it, but yeah, I ended up ordering another one.
It was delicious. Um, yeah I just got to say one thing too. I love like I love the cohesion of like a group of guys in suits Like we're all kind of like a uniform like it's obviously at the workshop. We look like everybody who's dressed up, right?
But then we're going to a different environment Dogs, yeah, it's like an immediate talking point It's like oh what's up with those guys like they're not basically gross They might come from the workshop as a matter of fact We are you know, and it's like it's like it's one of these it's just feels quick part of the team It reminds me the band days when like pumps you so I'll dress the same way and shit like it's you feel like your part of something I love it. Yeah, we got a lot of cool photos. Well, I'll say we got a lot of photos Much cooler than you I wanted one good booth photo of chairs. I'm like, oh, we're like, you know, the rest of our dogs are like beetles I'm like, I'm gonna put in black and black and the pizza in there We got a pizza.
No one touch the pizza. We're gonna picture with the pizza We all just like morons Yeah, I've been at this workshop for hours, you know, it's times of what it was fucking IPA and red wine that they're serving But yeah, so it was great great night But it was good time, but yeah, but Sage coming up. There's anything else you guys wanted to talk about you want to do a bit of A bunch of you guys got a good I'm actually just getting a pod out the door. We were quick this week So we can turn this around again I'd rather have much shorter pods that get up more regularly than longer pods than never get it That's my goal, you know, it's the link for the pod doesn't really matter It's basically what's going on that week finding the time is once you have the files in it goes quick.
There you go Okay, well anyway, we're all the best and congratulations to all the winners at the CSA It truly was an honor just to be nominated and hopefully we're back again next year for the bulges St. Baldges day special because it's a fucking fun night and we'll you can go back and do it all again That's it. That's all that's our episode. Thank you so much to manger ash I was able to actually see everything at this dream night whereas otherwise I would have just been blind as a bet and Thank you Nathan Nash for not only doing this pod but getting those contacts out to me guys.
This was a great hang maybe the best
