If You Only Knew
from Metanoia Madness
How do you become happy when your life still isn’t going the way you want it to? A coworker recently asked Nicholas a question he wasn’t expecting: “How do I become happy like you?” His first thought was simple. If you only knew. Because she was asking during one of the hardest seasons of his life. There were things she couldn’t see. Loss. Fear. Uncertainty. Questions he was still bringing to prayer and meditation. Pieces of himself he was still trying to put back together. But then he realized something. She wasn’t wrong. In this episode of Metanoia Madness, Nicholas explores happiness, contentment, healing, uncertainty, and what it means to find peace even when parts of your life are still unresolved. Maybe being happy doesn’t mean everything is going well. You can laugh while grieving. You can have good days inside difficult seasons. You can want your life to change while still appreciating the life you have now. And you can be genuinely happy without pretending that nothing hurts. Sometimes we struggle to recognize our own growth because we remember every version of ourselves that came before the person everyone else sees today. We remember the anxiety, mistakes, heartbreak, fear, and moments nobody else witnessed. But knowing the whole story doesn’t make the person you’ve become any less real. Maybe happiness isn’t the reward you receive once you finally get your life right. Maybe peace isn’t waiting somewhere beyond enough money, success, certainty, or healing. Maybe happiness is learning that a difficult feeling doesn’t have to become the atmosphere of your entire life. You can still want more. You can still be healing. You can still have unanswered questions. And you can look at the life happening right now and genuinely think: I’m glad I’m here. JOURNAL PROMPT When somebody sees something good in me that I struggle to see in myself, why am I so quick to show myself the evidence against it? And: What might someone who only knows the person I am today recognize in me that I’ve been too close to my own story to notice? AFFIRMATIONS My difficult seasons do not make my happiness less real. I can carry pain without allowing it to become my entire identity. I am allowed to recognize the person my experiences have helped me become. I do not need everything in my life to be resolved before I can be at peace inside of it.
