If Your Body Could Speak: Listening to the Poem Within | Creative Somatic Meditation

from Blissful Evolution · host Abi Beri

Your feet don't say 'I'm tense.' They say: 'We're tired of carrying you to places you don't want to go.' Your belly doesn't say 'I have discomfort.' It says: 'I've been churning worries like stones. I forgot how to be soft.' Your throat doesn't say 'I feelconstricted.' It says: 'I'm full of words that never became sound.' This is how your body actually speaks—in metaphors, in images, in poetry. Not in medical terms. Not in analytical language. But in the felt sense, intuitive, somatic language that emerges whenyou actually listen. This guided meditation creates space for your body to speak in its own language. It's a creative somatic practice that invites each part of your body—feet, belly, chest, throat, shoulders, hands—to share what it's been wanting to tell you. WHAT MAKES THIS DIFFERENT: Most body meditations ask you to notice sensations analytically: 'Where do you feel tension? What's tight?' This meditation asks your body to speak poetically: 'If you could say anything, what would you say?' The difference is profound. When your body speaks metaphorically, you access wisdom that thinking can't reach. Your belly doesn't just report 'tightness'—it might tell you it's 'holding all the feelings you couldn't digest' or it's 'an ocean that learned to stay perfectlystill.' These aren't things you make up. They're what genuinely emerges when you give your body permission to communicate in its natural language. IN THIS PRACTICE: You'll journey through your body, asking each part: 'What do you want me to know?' Not forcing answers. Not imagining poetry. Just listening—and being surprised by what your body actually says when given space. You might hear things like:• 'I'm braced. I've been ready to run for years and you never let me' (legs)• 'I'm an ocean that forgot it can move' (chest)• 'I ache from all the crying you wouldn't let happen' (throat)• 'I'm carrying mountains that aren't mine' (shoulders) Or your body might stay quiet. That's okay too. Sometimes 'I don't know how to speak yet' is the message. FROM A SOMATIC THERAPY PERSPECTIVE: Your body communicates through sensation, image, and felt sense—not through words and logic. When you give your body permission to speak metaphorically, you're working with how the body actually processes and stores information. This is why poetic language can access somatic wisdom that analytical language cannot. Your belly knows things yourmind doesn't. Your chest holds truths your thinking can't reach. Your body speaks—you just need to listen in its language. Guided by Abi Beri, integrative holistic therapist and somatic practitioner based in Ireland, working globally.
