Anthony Ray Hinton • One of the longest serving prisoners on death row in Alabama serving a crime he did not commit • Thirty years ago, Mr. Hinton was arrested and charged with two capital murders based solely on the assertion that a revolver taken from his mother’s home was the gun used in both murders and in a third uncharged crime. • After 12 more years of litigation, the U.S. Supreme Court reversed the lower courts, and a new trial was granted. The judge finally dismissed the charges after prosecutors said that scientists at the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences tested the evidence and confirmed that the crime bullets cannot be matched to the Hinton weapon. • During an interview with Hinton, he states that while he was in jail for 30 years, with nothing but a bed and a toilet chained to the wall “they took my 30’s, my 40’s and my 50’s but what they didn’t take was my joy” • Within three years of being released from jail he wrote a book entitled The Sun Does Shine: How I found Life and Freedom on Death Row Ear Hustle: Hosted by Earlonne Woods & Nigel Poor at San Quentin Thank you for checking out this episode of Introspective Insight: The Black Wallstreet Podcast and we hope you come back next week with a new set of ears.
