Reading and the black community The enjoyment of reading amongst black youth is hard to come by as time progresses. You are typically referred to as “white” if you present yourself as educated and well spoken within the black community. Historically our people fought for the right to be “educated” and “able to read” freely. Somewhere from then to now we’ve lost sight of that very fire that has carried us, as a people, this far. How does reading affect you and how important do you believe the art of reading to be? Do you consistently advocate for reading within the community or let it fall by the wayside?
