I’m Not Above Backing Out

from Redefining Wealth with Patrice Washington · host Patrice Washington

So many times we say “yes” knowing that it’s a “no.” Why do we agree to do things that we don’t want to do? Most of the time, we’re worried about pleasing others instead of honoring ourselves. In this episode, I talk about my latest team retreat and how I recommitted to my 2018 goal of simplicity. In order for me to finish the year strong, I have to let go of the stuff that makes me busy but not necessarily profitable. I realized I can’t be selective with what I’m willing to simplify. I was willing to let go of material possessions, but not willing to let go of opportunities in my career. If you’ve made commitments that you don’t have the time, resources or head space to complete, you can back out. You can do it with grace and dignity, but first and foremost, you have to do it for yourself. Download this episode and learn three easy steps to say “NO!” to things that are no longer serving you. Let’s grow together. CLIFF NOTES Don’t be busy holding on to opportunities that are out of season. You can’t be selective with what you’re willing to simplify Check in with what matters every day. Stop compromising your time, money, and peace to be liked. Detach yourself from the outcome when you say “no.” The wrong reasons to say “yes” are for likes, fear of abandonment, or to avoid conflict. When we self-sabotage, we bring down the people who actually want to support us. The people you may be bending over backwards to show up for, may not even care as much as you think. If you’ve made commitments, you can still back out with grace.
