Irial Glynn is a migration historian and his research focuses principally on the period after 1945. His current research principally revolves around three projects. First, he is the principal investigator of an European Research Council Consolidator project about the global history of boat refugees since the 1940s. This is a five-year project that investigates how notions of solidarity, sovereignty and sanctuary influenced the experience and reception of boat refugees across time and space. Second, he is finalising a book project looking at how migration has affected Irish society since 1945. Third, he researches how nativism has developed globally since the late 19th century and has recorded a podcast series for History Hub entitled 'A history of xenophobia'.
