Hi, Grimjungies. What do we start, right? I don't even know how to start this, and I feel honestly like my whole world's underwater right now, so I'm just going to tell you what's up, and I'm sorry if it's a little all over the place. With Brit's permission, she wanted us to share with you what happened this last week.
Brit had a sudden brain bleed that led... Sorry. That led to a clot in her brain, and she had to undergo multiple brain surgeries over the last week. Now, despite how much I'm crying, she did luckily make it out of each of them.
I've been up to see her a couple of times. She's talking, she has some mobility. She's not dead again. Ignore the tears.
Our Brit is going to be okay. I know she's going to be okay. Honestly, the best thing I can do is give you this anecdote to tell you how much Brit is still there when I went to see her in the hospital. It was after her first surgery, and the nurse was in there, and she was telling Brit about how critical her condition wasn't she came in.
She didn't know what year it was. She didn't know what her birthday was, and they were asking her some of the questions that you have to ask in a hospital when someone comes in. Are you safe at home? Is your husband good to you?
Justin wasn't in the room. Brit is rolling her eyes and saying yes, I'm fine. The nurse says, I have to ask these questions. Brit is the most crime junkie passion.
This will show you it's in her DNA. Who she has her core. I can't remember her freaking birthday. She says yes.
I know I watch SVU. She's still there. She's still herself. She's still a crime junkie as ever, but she does have a long road ahead of her to physically recover.
This has just turned my world upside down. At this exact second, I don't know what this means for crime junkie. I believe with all my heart that Brit is going to be healthy enough to get back on the mic. I just don't know when that is.
We have to give her enough time and space to heal. So I hope all of you out there understand that this show is probably going to sound a little different for a bit while she's away taking care of herself. We have some really important episodes that our team has been working on for a long time, and I don't want to let our advocacy work just come to a halt. Here is what is going to happen for at least the next couple of months.
This week obviously has been unreal. I've spent most of my time in South Bend with Brit and her family, so I don't have an episode lined up for Monday. So instead, we're going to give you guys a precedent episode. And then Brit and I actually prerecorded a couple of episodes that just need to be edited.
So you are going to continue to hear her voice through the end of May. But starting in June, it's just going to be me for a little while. Again, I don't know how long, but at least a couple of months. And I promise you, as we know more, we're going to update you guys either here in the feed or on social media.
I know all of you are amazing and understanding, and I'm sure you're going to be keeping Brit in your thoughts and your prayers. But actually, I thought we could do one a little bit better for her. She deserves a little bit better than that. I mean, you guys know, when a friend's in the hospital, you get them a card.
You make them a card. You go see them. Well, Brit is all of our best friends. And we have friends of you out there hanging out with her every single week.
So here's what I'm going to ask you to do. I want you to go to our Instagram at Crime Junkie podcast. And there we've made a special post for Brit. I want you to use the comment section as your card to Brit center.
All of your encouraging thoughts, all of your well wishes. If you have a story that is particularly long or personal about how Crime Junkie has touched your life or you want to include pictures, you know, pictures of puppets are a bonus, you can email that crimejunkie at audiochuck.com. I know as she continues to heal, it's going to make her feel amazing to know that each one of you are thinking about her that you're rooting for her to come back. Just like I am.
Thank you all for understanding and thank you for continuing to support Crime Junkie as we all figure this out together. We love you, Brit.
