Imposter Syndrome: Part 1 & 2 - Roundtable
from Psychology to Live By · host Dr. Chris Stevens
In the first podcast on the imposter syndrome we saw that perfectionism can be healthy or unhealthy. In the second we investigated ways to develop perfectionistic strivings – the healthy, curious immersion in improving our skills and knowledge. In this Roundtable participants discussed a wide range of implications: the impact of social media on teenager perfectionistic concerns; strategies for parents including talking with their teenagers and helping them calibrate and measure themselves against themselves - rather than unrealistic models of perfection; the difficulties many women have in not trying to be perfect at everything; helping people in workplaces be more adventurous, less afraid of being wrong and creating a climate of psychological safety in workplaces; the importance of environments in facilitating both healthy and unhealthy perfectionism.
