Impulse: Why We Do What We Do, Without Knowing Why We Do It

from Bar Talk With Jay · host Bar Talk With Jay

Can you resist it? That natural impulse that takes your time, money or energy? Checking social media when you wake up, that candy at the checkout line, or that person who always seems to change your mood or focus, all of these are examples of decisions made with impulse. How do we get to that point? Is it nature or learned behavior? More than likely, it will be a bit of both. Not all impulses are negative. Because of what you learned over time you may develop impulses that protect you and your loved ones from harm. You may make impulsive decisions because you love someone and want their affection. Getting them flowers or their favorite snack goes a long way with someone when it shows you care. Is in your nature to treat a person like that or does that person create an impulse to enact the behavior? We discuss this and more this week on Bar Talk With Jay. Thanks for listening!
