"In a disembodied world, an embodied community" John 20.24-29 | A Different Community

The disconnection between our physical body and our Christian journey brings pain to ourselves and the world. Jesus reminds us of our three parts being: mind, body, and soul. Which is good news for a world disconnected from the physical. Embodiment, conscious awareness of being a body, contrast with the Church's neglect, seen in refugee apathy, abuse cover-ups, and racial injustice. By embodying Christ's teachings, we fulfill the mandate of being His hands and feet, trading intellectual pursuit for bodily worship.   Embracing God-given limits and practicing spiritual disciplines reconnect us, enabling us to effectively be the hands and feet of Christ. This journey involves moving beyond theological theory to active, compassionate living. We are invited to see ourselves as Thomas being invited by the savior to physically touch and see the wounds of Christ that recreate our past, present, and future into one of great hope. Take a moment to journal around these 2 questions. Read John 20: 24-29, what is your “unless” question for Jesus? “Unless I see this reality in the physical world”? Ask Jesus to show you! What wounds has Jesus healed in you? How can you share that reality with someone this week who needs to see Jesus in that exact place?In what ways do you still carry the marks of that wound? Reflect on the bodily hope of resurrection.
