In Conversation With Brigadier Athlenda Mathe

from VOW 88.1 · host Chulumanco Skiti and Pretty Ngwenya

Cape Town has been shaken by a series of violent shootings, with the Gugulethu house massacre drawing national attention. In this incident, two armed suspects stormed into a home in the early hours of Monday morning. They demanded a firearm before opening fire on the occupants, killing five young people aged between 19 and 23. A 20-year-old woman survived but was rushed to hospital with gunshot wounds. Police have since launched a manhunt for the suspects and deployed additional officers to Gugulethu to prevent further bloodshed. This tragedy is part of a broader wave of violence that unfolded across the Western Cape over the same weekend. In Khayelitsha, three men were gunned down in a triple shooting. In Manenberg, two men were killed and a 74-year-old woman injured in what authorities suspect was gang-related violence. In Stellenbosch’s Kayamandi township, four people were killed and four others wounded, including two police officers, during a shootout with heavily armed suspects. Altogether, at least 14 people lost their lives in separate shootings within just three days. Instagram · Twitter
