In conversation with energy expert Ruse Moleshe

from VOW 88.1 · host PULA MOKOENA

The South African government says they are pressing ahead with plans to expand the country’s nuclear energy programme, despite concerns over safety at the Koeberg power station. Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa said the government remained committed to procuring 5.2 gigawatts of new nuclear capacity as part of the country's R2.2 trillion energy transition. The expansion formed part of the Integrated Resource Plan to reduce reliance on coal, diversify the country's energy mix and grow the nuclear industry, with implementation planned through to 2039.
