How many times have you heard someone say, "The Bible is not relevant for today's culture? It doesn't relate to where we are at in our society and is no longer pertinent to our world." Just read the book of 1 Corinthians and you will find that isn't the case at all. It is up-to-date, current and very relevant. Most of the issues we face today were faced by the Corinthians. Although the world has changed a lot since it was first written the same truths remain. The issues are imbedded in philosophy, humanism, divisions in the church, sexual immorality in and out of the church, marriage, divorce, being single, relationships between men and women, questionable practices (grey areas), gender roles in the church, homosexuality and the bottom line of love. The book of 1 Corinthians definitely is relevant and addresses many of the issues we are facing today. In a constantly shifting culture we must understand our biblical world view. It impacts our marriage, sexuality, finances, parenting and ultimately how we conduct our lives. We will learn throughout this series how to live as disciples of Jesus while loving those who are not. We will learn how to be in the world, but not of the world.
