SCRIPTURE TEXT: 1 Samuel 8:1-22; 9:1-27   When the people of ancient Israel clamored for a king to rule over them so “that we also may be like all the other nations” (1 Sam 8:20), Samuel the Prophet knew that the hearts & motives of the people weren’t fixed on God, who was already their Lord & King. Nevertheless, God told Samuel to follow the people’s wishes, for He had a man prepared who would be king. In looking at this section of Scripture today, modern believers must consider: who rules our world? Are we “in search of a king” to comfort us, win our battles, and make us more like other people around us?
