In the blink of an eye Al Viney's world was turned upside down. She had just graduated year 12 in Tasmania and was planning to embark on a gap year overseas and upon return resume the life of a professional athlete. Proving to be quite the handy rower and fueled by a passion for sport it was all shaping up to plan. But a high-speed car accident caused by a drunk driver left her with lasting physical impairments along with psychological and emotional trauma. It took 8 years before the seed of being an athlete was spontaneously planted into Al's mind, something she'd simply accepted was now forever beyond her capabilities. (Boy was she wrong about that) This is Al's first time sharing her story on a podcast and to say that this conversation was a privilege is a vast understatement. Al's recollection of the accident is both vivid and raw, and with this she shares openly and honestly how the weight of trauma along with her perception of her involvement has affected over the years since.  This is one of my favorite conversations which for me highlights so much about what we can achieve when we unshackle ourselves from perceived limitations. Al is now a record-breaking athlete, an Australian Paralympian and now serves as an incredible inspiration for others to get out there and make Australia proud!
