In The Know - Keeping Green Valley Safe, Prepared & Informed! with Deanna Lindeman SAV (Aired 08/31/2026)

from Community Podcasts · host KGVY Media

On this week’s In the Know, Andy Taylor welcomes SAV Commander Deanna Lindeman for an informative look at the many ways the Sheriff’s Auxiliary Volunteers serve Green Valley and the surrounding community. With monsoon weather in the area, Deanna explains how SAV teams assist the Pima County Sheriff’s Department with traffic control during flooded roads, downed trees and power lines. She also reminds drivers why “Turn Around, Don’t Drown” is more than just a slogan — entering flooded roadways can put both drivers and first responders at risk.Deanna also shares how residents can become part of SAV. Volunteers receive training in CPR, AED and first aid, defensive driving, fire extinguisher use, hazardous materials awareness, crime prevention, radio communications and more. SAV members serve as extra eyes and ears in the community, assisting with everything from house checks to reporting suspicious activity. A new SAV class begins October 6, with prospective volunteers encouraged to contact recruiters as soon as possible. Also coming up is the CERT Preparedness Fair on September 19 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the West Center. SAV and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department will be on hand for a Shred-A-Thon and Dispose-A-Med event, giving residents an opportunity to safely dispose of sensitive documents and unwanted medications while learning more about emergency preparedness. Finally, Deanna warns veterans and their families about a troubling new scam involving postcards promoting a nonexistent “Veterans Savings Program.” The mailers are designed to convince recipients to provide personal and financial information. Her advice: don’t respond, don’t call the number on the postcard, and contact the VA directly using a trusted number. It’s another information-packed edition of In the Know, highlighting the volunteers who help keep Green Valley safe, prepared and connected.
