Independent candidate for Illinois Governor secures spot on November ballot

A Republican strategist who is now running as an independent candidate for Illinois governor will be on the November ballot. Back on June 2, objections to nominating petitions for Collin Corbett were filed by Republican activist Kristina McCloy and Republican lieutenant governor nominee Aaron Del Mar who is Darren Bailey's running mate in the November general election. In Illinois, 25,000 signatures are required for independent and non-established party candidates to run for statewide office, and the objections challenged the validity of more than 20,000 petition signatures submitted by Corbett. After examining the documents, the Board of Elections determined Corbett filed more than 27,000 valid signatures, and the objections were withdrawn, clearing the way for him to be on the ballot.
