Indiana Weather 3/9 Morning - Flood Warning

Good morning. Indiana. I'm Aaron Jolly. Step outside right now and you're feeling 43 degrees. But here's the thing. We're about to blow past that. Sunshine dominates today with highs rocketing into the low 70s statewide. Indianapolis hits 72 degrees — one degree shy of the 1878 record. Southwest winds gust to 25 miles an hour this afternoon, pumping in that spring-like air. Central Indiana tops out at 72 under brilliant sunshine. Northeast Indiana reaches 69 with those gusty southwest winds. Down in Southwest Indiana. Here comes 73 degrees and mostly sunny skies. Northern Indiana matches the northeast at 69. Tonight's where things shift. Clouds roll in from the southwest after midnight. Patchy drizzle develops after 2 A.M. In spots. Lows only drop to the mid 50s to low 60s — warmer than this morning. Tuesday brings even hotter air. Highs surge into the mid to upper 70s — potentially breaking the 2009 record of 74 degrees. But there's a catch. A frontal boundary stalls across the Great Lakes, setting up a volatile pattern. Scattered thunderstorms fire up late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Some could turn severe with all hazards on the table — tornadoes, large hail, damaging winds. The bigger concern? Flooding. Heavy rain Tuesday night through Wednesday afternoon brings widespread totals of 1 to 2 inches, locally higher. This will worsen ongoing river flooding south of I-70. The Wabash River at New Harmony remains under a Flood Warning through March 18th. Wednesday's storms clear by evening. Thursday brings sunshine and seasonable 50s.
