Indiana Weather March 4 Evening - Record Cold

from The Indiana Weather Podcast

Good evening. Indiana. I'm Aaron Jolly. That steady drum of rain on your roof this morning? It wasn't just noise. We picked up nearly an inch of water across the state in the last 24 hours. Step outside and you can feel it — that damp, mild air clinging to your jacket. We're sitting at a mild 56 degrees right now, but the ground is thoroughly soaked. In the next 24 hours. Here's what I'm watching. Southwest Indiana is under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 10 P.M. Evansville and surrounding areas could see storms capable of large hail and damaging winds. Meanwhile, a Flood Watch covers much of southern Indiana through Thursday afternoon. Rivers and creeks are already running high. If you look at the thermometer, the state is having two different days. Down in Southwest Indiana, you're seeing the warmest air — highs near 72 degrees with those strong thunderstorms rolling through. Central Indiana sits at 58 degrees with rain and patchy fog. But head north and the temperature drops off. Northern Indiana reaches just 48 degrees. Northeast Indiana stays coolest at 45 degrees under gray skies and occasional showers. Tonight, rain continues statewide. Lows hold in the 40s up north and 50s down south. That's about 37 degrees warmer than we would expect for early March. Thursday keeps the wet weather going with more rain and thunderstorms. Highs climb to 66 degrees in Central Indiana, 55 in the Northeast, 69 in the Southwest. And 53 in the North. Looking ahead. Friday could challenge record highs near 76 degrees. A cold front sweeps through Saturday with more storms, then Sunday clears out beautifully. Monday and Tuesday bring another round of rain before cooler air returns. If the clouds cooperate, the full moon rises tonight at sunset — 6:40 P.M. It's worth a look. Charge your phones and keep the umbrella handy. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
