For the first time on record, people born in India have become the largest overseas-born group in Australia. According to new figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), country's population stood at 27.6 million as of 30 June last year, with 8.83 million residents born overseas. Of that number, 971,020 people were born in India and 970,950 people were born in England.
