Inequality of Opportunity in real estate at NextHome Conference with Tabitha Richardson

The diversity in real estate is not just a discussion for some of us but it is something we live with and deal with on a daily basis. I was invited by the Vice President to speak at our Broker Summit in St. Louis, held each year just for franchise owners. It was my first summit with NextHome due to the pandemic, however, I was invited to speak on stage.I pondered for weeks on what to talk about in front of a room full of other franchise owners. I finally knew what I wanted to talk about the night before the summit. With 17 years of experience as a licensed realtor and 10 years of experience as a brokerage owner, the best thing I can talk about what my WHY and my experience. Ultimately, your experience is personal and no one else in the world will have the same walk in life as you. In my speech, I touched on some of the experiences I had as a black woman-owned brokerage owner and the obstacles I had to overcome to stand on that very stage to speak.From my speech, I was invited to be on the NextHome podcast, episode 40 where we dove deeper into the topic of "diversity" and the black experience in real estate. It was such a great discussion and I was happy to be a part of the conversation that is inspiring change across the globe. That episode was one of the top downloaded episodes! People are becoming more aware of how others who do not look like them experience life on this earth. When I was asked to speak at the company conference in front of 1,000+ people, how could I say no? It was a great experience and an even better opportunity to speak about a topic that may have been thought of as taboo not that long ago. Opening the dialog about inequality and diversity to bring awareness so everyone can feel included is definitely a step in the right direction. I am thankful to have been chosen to be the voice on this topic at NextHome.
