[Inglês] Awni Farhat sobre a história de uma fuga ao “inferno” de Gaza (Entrevista)

Awni Farhat, palestiniano, nasceu e viveu em Gaza até aos 25 anos. Em 2015, conseguiu escapar ao bloqueio que, há mais de dez anos, Israel e o Egito impõe à região, deixando cerca de dois milhões de pessoas presas em 365 quilómetros quadrados, sem água potável e com a distribuição de eletricidade severamente limitada. Segundo a Organização das Nações Unidas, a continuar assim, a Faixa de Gaza não terá condições de sobrevivência dentro de dois anos, em 2020. A família de Awni continua em Gaza mas as esperanças de que ele possa voltar são poucas. Entrevistámos Awni em Cascais, quando dois dos barcos da Flotilha da Liberdade estavam atracados em Portugal. Ele foi um dos ativistas a bordo. Ouve aqui a entrevista. [English] Awni Farhat, a Palestinian, was born and lived in Gaza until he was 25. In 2015, he managed to escape the blockade that Israel and Egypt have been imposing on the region for more than ten years, leaving around two million people trapped in 365 square kilometres, without drinking water and with severely limited electricity distribution. According to the United Nations, if this continues, the Gaza Strip will not be able to survive two years from now, in 2020. Awni's family is still in Gaza, but there is little hope that he will be able to return. We interviewed Awni in Cascais, when two of the Freedom Flotilla boats were docked in Portugal.
