InnerSource Commons at FINOS Open Source Readiness - Panel Discussion

from FINOS Open Source in Finance Podcast · host FINOS

Season 2, 6th and last edition of 2020 of the FINOS Open Source in Fintech Podcast: InnerSource Commons at the FINOS Open Source Readiness. We’re we’re working on changing up our podcast for 2021 a little, to expand the type and quality of content we bring to you through this podcast. Forged out of the “uh oh, Covid, what do we do when we can’t engage people at in-person events” that happened to everyone this year, Our podcasts in 2020, were based around interviews from the virtual meetups we started in this year. In the coming year, we will of course have interviews with FINOS project leaders, members, and other industry thought leaders, but will also start including panel discussions and fireside chats that you may have missed from some of our events, case studies and deep dives, and then we may just start including you in some of our FINOS employee chats and office hours we do with the community - basically anything that we can do to provide you with more value within the world of open source, financial services, fintech, and banking tech. So this particular episode is a preview of that. At our last Open Source Readiness meeting of 2020 (December 9, 2020), we featured the first in a series of collaborations with InnerSource Commons to promote best practice around InnerSource in financial services. InnerSource is the application of open source software development practices to internal software development projects. It's a great way for companies to increase collaboration within their organization, and for developers to gain skills that will make them effective participants in open source projects. We have definitely found this helpful within financial services in banks that are still looking to venture into open source. We had guest panelists from InnerSource Commons, Deutsche Bank, Capital One, Lloyds Banking Group, and FINOS’ Open Source Readiness project. Check our show notes for a complete list of panelists and bios. Sit back and learn as our friend Danese Cooper, president and founder of Innersource Commons, and a multi-decade veteran of the open source world leads a discussion on Innersource patterns for the Financial Services Industry. About the Open Source in Fintech Podcast The FINOS Open Source in Fintech Podcast celebrates open source projects and interesting topics at the cross section of financial services and open source. So far, our industry experts have discussed practical applications of and their real-world experiences with a range of open source projects including desktop interoperability, low code platforms, synthetic data, and data modeling. They’ve also discussed best practices for inner source, common myths about open source and why commercial companies choose to introduce open source offerings. Tune in to hear what comes next.
