Inside the minds of great yogis ft. Serena Burgess

from Inside the minds of great yogis with Swathi Sathyaseelan · host A Yogi's Perspective

Vanakkam/ Namaste/Hello Everyone! We are back with another episode of #insidethemindsofgreatyogis. In this episode, We spoke with Serena Burgess on the 86th episode and loved hearing her perspective on yoga! About Serena: Serena Burgess has dedicated 20 years to the physical and spiritual practice of yoga. Now training others to share the art, she teaches that while yoga nurtures personal wellbeing, its deeper purpose is to inspire action for the wellbeing of all. An international yoga teacher, teacher trainer, and mentor, Serena is known for her embodied, accessible, and quietly radical approach to practice. Her work blends strength and softness, discipline and devotion, inviting students to meet themselves honestly—whether right side up or upside down. From arm balances and inversions to slow, grounding rituals, her teaching encourages curiosity, courage, and play. Serena is also a prenatal and children’s yoga teacher and a trained doula, supporting people through pregnancy, birth, parenting, and life’s many thresholds. These roles deeply inform her teaching, rooting her work in care, nervous system awareness, and reverence for cyclical wisdom. Across all her offerings, she centres practices that restore agency, honour the body’s intelligence, and challenge extractive, perfection-driven approaches to movement and life. Drawing on yoga philosophy, myth, and lived experience, Serena creates spaces that feel both supportive and expansive—where strength is redefined, rest is respected, and community matters. Her work gently resists systems that disconnect us from our bodies, our intuition, and one another, offering instead a yoga that is relational, life-affirming, and deeply human.A big thank you to Serena for joining us in our 86th episode of #insidethemindsofgreatyogis and for giving us her valuable time. We hope we can do this again! Hear Serena's perspective on yoga and her work with prenatal yoga!
