Inside the Royal Ballet

from Leaders Performance Podcast · host The Leaders Performance Institute

Join us as we take a step inside the Royal Ballet. So what can sport learn from these ‘artistic athletes’ and the way they train to perform? To get to the bottom of it we return to this session from the Leaders Performance Summit in London in 2014. Kevin O’Hare, Director of the Royal Ballet, takes to the stage alongside Greg Retter, the Clinical Director of Royal Ballet Healthcare. Jarle Aambø was moderating and began by delving into the Royal Ballet’s efforts to distinguish its artistic output from the Bolshoi and the Paris City Ballet, to name but two esteemed counterparts. Both men explain why they want to be able to say that the ballet superstars of the world are knocking on their door. Further topics on the day included: -Reinvention and innovation. -Expanding the working life of the Royal Ballet’s dancers. -The use of data and technology to enhance performance. -The importance of a pragmatic approach that places the dancers at the centre. -Leadership at the Royal Ballet.
