Insights on Fathering a Prodigal Teen and Young Adult

from Warfare Parenting: Faith-driven strategies for struggling parents of teens and adult children · host Laine Lawson Craft

Are you dealing with the struggles of parenting a rebellious teen? Is your child experiencing spiritual warfare or self-harming? Are you wondering what the battle is really like?   Today, I'm having an open, honest conversation with a man whose voice is so powerful. Tom Yohe shares what God revealed to him as his family suffered the heartache of watching their daughter self-harm.   Tom Yohe is the co-founder of Hope for Hurting Parents and has served as a pastor, community college instructor, and Cru staff member. He's also the author of Moments of Clarity: Wisdom from a Prodigal Father. Tom and his wife, Dena Yohe, have co-authored the Hope for Hurting Parents Facilitator Guide and the Hope for Hurting Parents Parent Notebook for support groups. They have been happily married for over 43 years and have three children and four beautiful grandchildren.   "I realized that God is a prodigal parent, and he knows my pain. He understands my fears, every emotion that I'm walking in, and I can come to him with that because he's walking along with me in it." – Tom Yohe.   Topics covered in this episode:   Guest introduction (:16) Tom's story (1:16) Moments of clarity during the battle (3:19) Dynamic differences between moms and dads (4:47) Children fighting spiritual battles (7:18) Advice to parents of kids who are struggling (9:15) What's inside Moments of Clarity: Wisdom from the Father of a Prodigal (11:39) From one dad to another (14:39) Powerful points (16:09) Setting appropriate boundaries (18:28) Parenting tools: Hope for Hurting Parents (19:55) Final thoughts (20:41)   Every parent's heart breaks when their child takes a destructive path.
