Kandia was born and raised in Detroit. He says he doesn't remember a life that did not involve politics. Kandia rose through the ranks in Detroit politics, being Deputy Chief of Staff, Chief of Staff to the Mayor, and Deputy Mayor of Detroit. Kandia's nightmare was getting involved in a land deal that involved kickbacks. It cost Kandia a Federal Conviction and prison time. He struggled when he returned home trying to find someone to give him a second chance.
