Welcome to another edition of the Saints Happy Hour Podcast. It's time for a little instant reaction post-game edition. As always, we are brought to you by Hardhide Ponchacool Strawberry Whiskey and Chilton County Peach Whiskey. Dave, the New Orleans Saints won a football game today against the Baltimore Ravens, 24-17. I don't know where to start. They had incredible special teams. Tyler Shuck was awesome in the fourth quarter, as usual. And we had a controversial officiating decision that was wrong, but it went the Saints way, and they won. I don't know where to start, Dave, but I know we're 1-1 with the best team in the South.

Well, we're one of our top place. I think the Panthers are technically ahead of us. I'm not sure why. I don't know what the tiebreaker is. I think we should probably really start with the winning score. Although I do want to say.

I think that there is an NFL conspiracy against Jonas Senker and fumble recoveries. This is now the second week that he has recovered a fumble, one for a touchdown, and both of them have been called back on questionable calls, both of them. Something is amiss here. I don't know what it is. My spidey senses are tingling, but I just want everybody out there into that nation. Let's talk about the call or the touchdown call. It was ruled a touchdown on the field. They reviewed it. Apparently...

This is what I don't understand. They claim that they didn't see anything enough to overturn the call in the field. But meanwhile, I saw it on the TV broadcast. That shot did not get over that goal line. I really enjoyed Butterworth, the NFL guy, Butterworth, having to come on for a second week in a row. Yes. What happened in the Saints game this week?

We're becoming best friends, us and Butterworth. We're all besties now. And look, happy to have them come on this week because they ruled in our favor. I gotta say, you know what? Honestly, like, I...

It would have been better. I'd rather them get the call right. I'd rather them get the entire thing right, which was no touchdown, but we saw that face mask. That's a penalty. First down at the half yard line. You've got a fresh set of downs. Now you have time to run out the clock and kick a field goal or get the touchdown or whatever. I would rather have just have fucking lefts that are fucking competent and can just get shit right to begin with and get the face mask call. But look, we'll take it. This is karma.

I thought you won. Correct. Correct. It's nice to be on this side of it. So God bless. And listen, I don't know how I feel about opening the Pandora's box to like the replay can judge anything. But like, I truly believe they'll never release the audio. They'll never release the audio. But I truly believe the officials are like, dude, I'm not sure if he scored, but I'm 100% sure. I'm 100% sure. They tried to rip his face off. We're just going to leave it like it is. Like, I believe if we got the audio, that's what it would be.

You know, we do the video because they want to get it right on the field. That's the most important thing. If the most important thing is getting the call right, then technically everything should be reviewable. Pandora's box because the end result is always getting the correct call. But I don't want to get into it too long because we're having too much fun with the win. But if you open Pandora's box, it becomes like the English Premier League when they do a VAR review and they'll be like, that goal doesn't count, man. They got that a foul.

Three quarters up the pitch and we're waving it off. And it just drives you nuts. How far back do you go? That's right. There was a face mask there, but there was a false start all the way back there. And then, oh, but then the guy was late coming onto the field before that even happened. It's like, oh, we can go back. You can go on and on. But I just like this game. It really felt like Baltimore.

on offense was like in complete control of like it felt like they could do it if they're like oh we need to touch them we need to they came out in the second half they came out in the second half after destroying us with uh what's his face yeah like he was he was looking like an all pro in the first half and then for some reason in the second half they came out and were like we're not gonna use him anymore and he was he disappeared and like what mistake yeah like they they did it was really questionable but the other thing in this game was before we get to shock and we get to some of the bump no no no let's just no i i think let's just talk big fucking picture let's talk about the fact that like holy shit we have like we we are a playoff team like it's not we're not taking around anymore like we just beat the ravens uh we always kind of knew that but we really have our guy he's putting up drew breeze like numbers i think knows what he's doing and seems to be making the right calls and is good with clock management and is not a complete dumb ass uh we have a good defense and a defensive coordinator who makes good adjustments. And I don't know. First of all, I don't think the NFC South is well. I think Panthers and Saints are both going to be good. Todd Bowles is on getting fired watch because he lost to the Browns at home after like a five-hour rain delay. And the Falcons are. The Falcons, Dave, they're as bad as I have ever seen them in my entire life. And I have been watching Falcons for as long as I've been watching the Saints. They are an embarrassment. And it's delightful. I'll just say. The fans were champing. They wanted Jack.

crowd um like like i said on pardon my take i'm strand curious i would be very interested to see i kind of would like to see him out there and honestly that might be to the detriment of me as a saints fan and the new orleans i just i just i just we're in week two and look we looked back away and won that game we just beat the ravens we are technically honestly in my mind we are 2-0 because we should have beaten the lions um i don't i don't know the ceiling is now Way higher than it was before. And I am really having fun. I am really enjoying it. I have to admit, the last few years, Dennis Allen, he has really, my love for the Saints was dwindling. And my loving cup. You're recommitted. You're recommitted today. Yeah. And today and yesterday and last week. And these guys are good. I like it. This is a fun-ass team to watch. The national people are going to be talking about it. Well, yeah, that's the fun part. If you want to binge Saints podcast all week, all of the post-game analysis, you can. It's amazing. You should do it. But the thing is, this has nothing to do with analytics.

or stats or game film or any of that. But Dave, this just feels like a win where you look back at the end of the year and you're like, man, we went, we won 10, 11 games and the fun started in Baltimore. We came back. We got a bullshit ref decision. Like this is the kind of game when you win it, you feel awesome. And I feel like this is the thing that leads to 10, 11 wins. On the flip side, if you lose it, you go six and 10 and you're like, I hate the coach. I hate everything. We get screwed over and over again. I'm not doing this anymore. I'm going apple picking on Sunday.

I just, I, this is a vibes win that feels amazing. We're a fourth quarter team. Shuck is a fourth quarter guy. I mean, he is like, we gotta, we gotta, he needs a nickname. We gotta come up with a nickname. He's like, just Joe cool. Like he just, the more that he gets turned up, the colder he gets and the more laid back he gets and he just will continue to take risks and not be afraid to throw into windows or throw something deep or throw something where he knows that his guy's going to get it. Like that one pass where they lay like high pointed it and had to go all the way up for it. I mean, he just, God, he just throws a goddamn beautiful ball. Yeah. I mean,

Yeah. And I want to say this about the offense. Kids cry. My son, we were watching it. We were watching it on the way to the soccer game. My wife was driving me and him in the backseat. And he's like, is that Baltimore kid crying? He's crying a lot. He's crying a lot for a week to game. Even your son knows he needs to toughen up. Look, I'm going to go easy on kids, but.

That could just get a hard lesson in being a fan of any team, and there's going to be more of this. There's going to be more of that. Hopefully you get some of the good stuff, but deal with it, okay? Because as a Saints fan, I don't want to hear it. I've been through the no-call. I've been through last week in Detroit, so topping up. Baltimore fans were like hopping in my mentions, and I'm like, you people, a bad call.

makes it better like I don't give a damn like you think I'm a I'm a Saints fan I don't care like the fact that we screwed you over at the end like that makes it better like I'm not I'm not going to apologize in fact I'm going the other way I enjoy it more listen the last thing I want to talk about I think I might have to put together for the main show I think I might have to put together a little segment audio bites of Ravens fans before the game they were cocky they were I mean I get it they felt like going into this game they had crushed the Colts they were the best they were the best they were the best team in the NFL. And I believe, like, I still believe that. I think you look at the Ravens, like, this win, this win, at the end of the year, the Ravens are still going to win 10, 11, 12 games. Like, this win's going to be a really good win. Like, they're not fraudulent. They still, in my opinion, might be the best team in the AFC. All right, before we get to the end of this, the regular podcast, Dave, I want to talk about one thing. And that is, DeJuan Johnson has been quietly really good since Shuck became the quarterback. He had four catches for 66 yards today. Broke some tackles. Should have got credit for the touchdown to win the game, probably, in my opinion. But Dave...

Jawan Johnson. Top five. I said it. Top five fantasy tight end. He's going to end up being like this. Chuck is like, he's like, he's like magic dust. He just turns everything into offense. It's incredible. Except for the running game, which we can get to. But Jawan Johnson takes a lot of crap. He looks amazing. I mean, look, we talked about that. Who's going to be number two. And I picked Jawan Johnson as the number two receiver. So I'm kind of, maybe, maybe I'm in the lead here, but I think it's, it's.

It's just very much like Brees. Like he distributes the ball very well. Yeah. He distributes the ball very well, just like Drew did in his prime. And you know, we used to, when we had Derek Carr and we had Rattler and other quarterbacks, you know, we always used to say, it's not fair to compare him to Drew. It's not fair to compare him to Drew. I think it's totally fair to compare Chuck to Drew. I'm going to continue to compare Chuck to Drew. And you know what? Right now he's very comparable. So I am really.

uh because he's he's doing so well like that's why i think it's crazy like i think we are in i don't know we're in we're starting to get in rarefied my mouth week two and he's like five or six games into his career whatever it seems to me it seems to me it seems to me that everything we have seen from shuck seems to me like he he's gonna become he's gonna be in the rarefied air of nfl he's gonna he's gonna be in that he's gonna be in that he's gonna be in that not maybe not the best of the best guy but he's gonna be in that four to like nine ten range all right kevin has joined us But this is the end of the regular podcast version.
