Intentional Stress and BACON!

from BACON BITS with Master Happiness · host Master Happiness

Imagine lifting weights, running on a treadmill, or riding a bike. Your heart starts pounding, your breath quickens, and you start to sweat. Now, imagine being called into HR, waiting for a call from the doctor, or about to propose to that someone special. Your heart starts pounding, your breath quickens, and you start to sweat. Why do we strive for one type of stress and strain to avoid another? Stress is part of life - but let’s not let that stress us out! Like anything, some stress can actually be good for you. Think of it as a motivator. This beneficial stress is called 'eustress' – the type of exciting nervousness associated with things like good news at work or first dates: those butterflies in our stomachs are a good thing. Psychologist Kelly McGonigal urges us to view stress as a positive. Her research suggests that stress may only be bad for you if you BELIEVE that it’s bad for you. Both good and bad stress result in your body releasing hormones, such as adrenaline and cortisol, that triggers common signs of stress: butterflies in the stomach, racing heart and sweaty palms. Ultimately, what distinguishes good stress from bad is how you react or feel about the experience. So, let's embrace our eustress. And make every day an adventure worth celebrating! Let’s BACON that STRESS!
