This research study evaluates how a specific, physiological breastfeeding technique known as the Thompson Method influences nursing success among thousands of mother-baby pairs in an Australian hospital. By focusing on baby-led connection and maternal positioning, the researchers sought to reverse declining trends in nursing rates and ensure mothers could sustain feeding after returning home. The findings demonstrate that this method significantly improved direct breastfeeding rates at hospital discharge and helped prevent early discontinuation for those who started exclusively nursing.
