International Relations condemns criminality and xenophobia.

from African Dialogue · host Channel Africa

South Africa’s Minister for International Relations Lindiwe Sisulu has emphasised that the recent violence which erupted against foreign nationals is pure criminality and not xenophobia. Sisulu was speaking after a high level meeting with African Heads of Mission on Monday. Last week more than 150 Malawian nationals were displaced from one of South Africa’s informal settlements in Durban in the province of KwaZulu-Natal following attacks by locals. The meeting called by Sisulu was aimed at restoring faith in the South African government to address the attacks. To help us unpack the discussion we are now joined on the line by: *Department of International Relations and Cooperation, DIRCO spokesperson Ndivhuwo Mabaya *Phinith Chanthalangsy, is a programme specialist for social and human sciences at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) he is based in the cluster office in Rabat *Tsholofelo Nakedi is the Community Interventions Manager at the Center of the Study of Violence and Reconciliation *Professor Jo Vearey is an Associate professor and director at the African Centre for Migration and Society
