Welcome to the daily disciple podcast where we seek daily to be with and to become like Jesus our teacher. Good morning everyone and welcome to this season the podcast where we as friends that are friends of Jesus are just enjoying Jesus every morning, every afternoon, every evening and every single day and I'm gonna get going because this story is a little bit longer than normal and I know that there's gonna be so much to say and so the title of the podcast this morning is Interruptions and we're gonna be in mark chapter 5 beginning verse 21 in just a moment a story where Jesus is interrupted again and again and again And so the question is how do you feel about interruptions? How do you feel about people? You know interrupting you your agenda your plan, you know what you have on the calendar for that day or for that season You know, how do you how do you feel when people?
Interrupt you and take you off task off that project or or that thing and and to press a little bit further because I think this Is in the story how do you feel about being interrupted by people who don't seem to have anything to offer you or? Anything to offer your vision or mission or seem to take instead of give How do you feel about being interrupted by people that don't seem to contribute to what it is that you want to accomplish? How do you feel about interruptions and in this incredible story in mark chapter 5? Jesus is a rep interrupted again and again and again so begins in verse 21 Is this when Jesus had crossed over by boat to the other side of the lake a large crowd gathered around him while He was by the lake and of course, what is Jesus gonna do what he loves to do his agenda his plan and he feels called by God to do He's gonna teach and he's ready and he's prepared and he's gonna he's gonna go for and he's gonna start teaching and then all of a sudden in verse 22 One of the synagogue leaders named Jairus came and we saw Jesus He fell at his feet and he pleaded earnestly with him My daughter is dying please come and put your hands on her so that she will be healed and Jesus went with him Jesus was interrupted he was interrupted Based on what he had in mind for that afternoon what he wanted to be what he planned on doing and he allowed himself to be interrupted He allowed it and so he's on his way to Jairus's house And as we know probably from hearing the story of time or to a woman who was subject to bleeding presses through the crowd and she touches Jesus and Verse 30 at once Jesus realized that power had gone out from him He turned around in the crowd and asked who touched my clothes and the disciples say you see all these people crowding around you And you can ask who touched me but Jesus kept on looking for who had done it So this woman subject to bleeding she pressed through the crowd and touched Jesus and he felt power come out from him to heal her and he stopped And the disciples were thinking Jesus you've got things to do you've got a gymnastic care of Jairus's important person You know his daughter is sick when you go go go go go but Jesus again He allowed himself to be interrupted He he always allowed interruptions he welcomed interruptions And then you see as the story continues Jesus is talking administering to this woman who he allowed to interrupt his agenda and as he is talking to her in Verse 35 while Jesus was still speaking some people came from the house of Jairus the synagogue leader And they the delegation from Jairus's house interrupted him again and he allowed that to happen and he followed them and he went He healed Jairus's daughter and it's this incredible story not only the power of God But of Jesus being willing and open to being interrupted constantly Constantly Jesus welcomes it again and again and again And I think that part of what Mark is saying and what Jesus is modeling is that we actually won't be able to partner with God in doing What he is actually doing unless we hold our agendas and our plans and our calendars in our lives with open hands We won't see who God wants us to see or do what God actually wants us to do unless we're willing to be interrupted We might call these divine interruptions that would have been a good title for this podcast and don't get me wrong I mean just like Jesus we're we've been given dreams and plans and they're good dreams and they're good plans Most of them anyway, but unless we hold them with open hand we won't actually do en route What God is called us to do we won't actually see who God has called us to see whether that's people that we see every day or a stranger that We might run into and as I read the story and I kind of reflect on it with all of you this morning I'm realizing the following Jesus following the footsteps of Jesus actually involves stopping I mean think about that actually involves stopping and so often we think you know I'm doing this in the name of Jesus, but we're really doing it in our own name and for our own glory and I think Being willing to be interrupted is actually the litmus test as to who this really is for And I don't know about you, but but I have turned time into a bit of a commodity time is money I need to get this done My time is very important But time isn't money as Jesus shows us here time is an opportunity to partner with God to see what he's up to and to participate in what he's up to and I think the essence of the story is being willing to be interrupted Maybe you can think of a of a time or a moment where you were interrupted and you missed that moment Maybe a child or a spouse or a stranger or a friend interrupted you but you you missed it Or maybe you can think of a moment where you were interrupted and you seized the moment and you held your agenda or your day or whatever with open hands and God did something because you didn't treat you know time as an idol to serve your agenda but Time is an opportunity to Serve God and ultimately bless others and Jesus was so good at seizing the moment and maybe in God's kingdom There's no such thing as interruptions So let's I mean let's let this beautiful reality of Jesus radically affect our day our life our family our way to see time Are we to understand the day and I'm particularly thinking about those of us with young kids I mean remember that story where Jesus was interrupted by the kids and the disciples shush them and tried to send them away And Jesus is no let them come on to me.
That was an interruption Next time we see a stranger and God opens our eyes to actually see that stranger. That's what's on God's heart So let's be people that see the gyroses and see the woman with the issue of blood and see those that we spend every day with and see Those that maybe God wants to bring across our path and you know this this came to me before I land this plane Jesus had time for gyros Jesus had time for the woman and honestly you and I are gyros you and I are the woman we Interrupt Jesus all the time and he welcomes it. He's never put off by us and when we ponder Jesus the one that always welcomes our interruption Then we by the power of the spirit become men and women they get to offer that kind of love and grace and patience to other people So let's do that today Let's meditate on this passage just think about this and and and maybe just maybe the interruptions or those things that we think are interruptions Are actually exactly what God wants to do with us and through us for his glory today.
