Liberty University lacrosse player Chad Gurney seemingly had it all: good looks, popularity, and an active love life. But a freak auto accident in 2005 left him with permanent physical and psychological impairments. After moving back to his hometown near Portland, ME - friends recalled something seeming off about Chad, claiming that he was, “never quite the same since the accident.” In May of 2009, the now tattooed man everyone seemed to be warning young girls about finally snapped, committing one of Maine’s most gruesome murders. His actions left everyone wondering if something had fundamentally changed in his brain chemistry after the accident, or if he had simply been a monster hiding in plain sight all along.   Written by Michael Dunphy Jr., Executive Produced by Michael Ojibway.  Special Thanks to Jessica Yergin & Drew Dickinson of The Misery Machine Podcast.   Visit Invisible Choir on the web:  Patreon - Invisible Choir Premium: https://www.patreon.com/InvisibleChoir  Website: https://www.invisiblechoir.com/  Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/InvisibleChoirPodcast/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/invisiblechoir/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/InvisibleChoir   Written/Audio Sources:  The Misery Machine - YouTube STATE OF MAINE VS. UnLearned Katherine and Bill UnLearned is a bi-weekly podcast focused on unlearning harmful narratives taught to us about blackness, womanhood, sexuality, and religion. Through our show, we hope to deconstruct these power structures and to create a space of relearning. As we share our stories, we hope that you will share yours. Together we can show that blackness means many things, that it is comprised of many stories, and that many voices make our choir.
