Rudresh Mahanthappa tells us about his upcoming "Charlie Parker Celebration" performances at Smoke Jazz Club (Aug 25-28). He gives us insight into his quintet recording "Bird Calls" and recent trio recordings "Hero Trio" and "Animal Crossing." We discuss his early musical inspirations, ethnic influences and authenticity in jazz, and get his thoughts on the relationship of music and language.
